Why I Won't Cut USG Sheetrock Joint Compound From a Painted Wall System
The cheapest drywall compound is the most expensive finish decision you can make in the rooms the client sees. I'm not trying to sound like a slogan. I manage procurement for a 40-person commercial interior contractor, and I've tracked roughly $1.8 million in material spend across six years. That experience taught me to look at total cost long after the invoice is paid.

But the price of quality is not always in the expensive product. It is in choosing the right product for the system and not hiding from the details.
Check the USG product data for the assembly you are building. Verify the substrate, read the current technical guide, and if the manufacturer says the joint compound belongs in the system, don't let a spreadsheet talk you out of it.
